Replacing document.documentElement.innerHTML in Internet Explorer

The following works flawlessly (as far as I can tell) in all other browsers: document.documentElement.innerHTML = “<head></head><body>Testing</body>”; But chokes in IE (I tested IE9), with a console error: SCRIPT600: Invalid target element for this operation. …referencing the first character of the line of code above. Why won’t this work in IE, but will work in […]

Internet Explorer flickering issues

I’m building a web app that includes a running animation that reproduces the behavior of a non-portable marquee element. I’m using http://jscroller2.markusbordihn.de/ for that effect but the root cause of the problem does not seem directly related to the library itself (it’s just the trigger that exposes the problem). The exact issue is as follows: […]

Access denied in ajax call only existing on IE9

I encounter this problem when using Xmlhttprequest to do ajax call. I test the code on Firefox, Chrome, Safari, they all work well. Only the problem existing on IE, my used version is 9. Some guys say I should enable the cross domain support. Actually, I add Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * into http response header. Any ideas? […]

How to tell when an image is already in browser cache in IE9?

IE9 is showing false complete property with the following: $(“<img/>”,{src:”http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1104/1434841504_edc671e65c.jpg”}).each(function(){console.log(this.complete);}); If you run this code in a browser console, (allow enough time for the image to load) then run it again. IE9 is the only browser I’ve tested showing false the second time. This seems to be a known bug, from some simple google searching. […]

Overriding Zoom shortcut (control + / control -) does not work in Internet Explorer 9

I am trying to override the Zoom shortcuts in Internet Explorer 9. Using jquery, I have an event handler that handles the keydown event on the document like this: $(document).keydown(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); }); This should disable all shortcuts in the browser and works on most browsers (for the shortcuts I’ve tried). Shortcuts like ctrl-s are […]

Why Do Browsers Leak Memory?

A colleague and I were speaking about browsers (using browser control in a project), and it appears as plain as day that all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera) display the same characteristic or side-effect from their usage and that being ‘Leaking Memory’. Can someone explain why that is the case? Surely as with any form […]

IE <select> scrollTop

I have found that with a select element in IE (IE7 and IE9 anyway) where the size attribute is specified, using .scrollTop can result in some weird behavior. I’m hoping there is a way around it. If a user manually scrolls to a position, then a script scrolls it to another position, if the user […]

Internet Explorer adds duplicate param tags to object elements in contentEditable mode

In Intenet Explorer (9 version) there is following problem: Browser adds additional param tags to object element. It’s visible in element.innerHTML. My code saves resulting html and on next rendering I got bigger html. And on all subsequent saves it becomes bigger which causes problems Initial html: <object width=”150″ height=”150″ classid=”clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000″> <param value=”3968″ name=”_cx”> … […]

Drag and Drop Files from Windows Explorer To Internet Explorer

I’m doing some old school IE and trying to get drag and drop from windows explorer to IE working. I’m getting the drop events but the dataTransfer object does not contain the file name(s). getData(“Text”) is also null. What am I missing? <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”> <head> <title>DnD</title> <script src=”scripts/jquery-1.7.2.min.js”></script> </head> <body> <div id=”dropstuff”>drop stuff […]
